For six years, Menlo Park's downtown has been a downtown in progress. The Springline block held a construction fence, then a soft opening, then a lineup with holes in it. This June, the last hole closed. The Wednesday concert on the other side of Santa Cruz Avenue is now happening against a fully leased retail row for the first time in the project's life.
That timing is the story. Two calendars that were built independently, by different people, over different decades, now overlap for six weeks straight.
The June That Closed a Six-Year Loop
Presidio Bay's 6.4-acre mixed-use development at 1300 El Camino Real reached full lease on June 11, when Alisios Mexican Cocina opened its doors and became the last restaurant tenant slotted into the block. The Burma Food Group team behind Burma Superstar and Burma Love built the concept from scratch after an earlier deal with Mírame fell through, hiring executive chef Carlos Villegas and drawing the menu from Oaxaca and Baja recipes, many of them from Villegas's family.
The month before, Causwells opened at the same block on April 2, moving down from the Marina and bringing its tableside martini cart, weekend brunch, and a 50-seat art deco room with a garage roll-up wall that opens to seat another 60 outdoors. The restaurant kept its cult burger on the menu and rebuilt roughly three-quarters of everything else.
Those two openings finished a tenant list that now reads: Alisios, Causwells, Che Fico Parco Menlo, Robin, Burma Love, Barebottle Brewing, Andytown Coffee, Proper Food, and Bubbelah. The public garage under the block runs 7 a.m. to midnight, the first two hours are free, and dining at any of the restaurants extends the validation.
The Wednesday Layer Nobody Built For
Two blocks north of the Springline lineup, the City of Menlo Park runs a free Summer Concert Series that predates the development by decades. In 2026 it runs weekly from July 8 through August 12, splitting evenings between Fremont Park at Santa Cruz Avenue and University Drive and Karl E. Clark Park farther east. Every concert starts at 6 p.m. Lawn chairs, blankets, picnics.
Half the series is still ahead as of this writing. The remaining schedule, per the Almanac's July 16 community brief and Ronnie's Awesome List roundup pulled from the city calendar:

Fast Times covers dance hits and rock. Andre Thierry is Bay Area zydeco. Sun Kings closes the series with a Beatles tribute. The city's own listing describes the mix as R&B, classic rock, Latin blues, southern soul, disco, and pop, which is another way of saying the programming is genuinely for the neighborhood rather than for any single demographic.
Where the Two Calendars Overlap
The interesting move is treating Wednesday as one arc instead of two errands. The concert ends around 7:30. Springline is a five-minute walk south down El Camino. That's the entire loop, and it is new. It did not exist last summer.
A workable Wednesday sequence, for anyone who already knows the block:
- 5:30 p.m. Park in the Springline garage off El Camino Real. Two free hours cover the walk over and the first set. Validation from a later dinner extends it.
- 6:00 p.m. Fremont Park, corner of Santa Cruz and University. Bring a blanket. The lawn fills in from the University Drive side first.
- 7:30 p.m. Walk south. If the group wants a room, Causwells's roll-up wall is usually open on warm evenings and the outdoor 60-seat side takes walk-ins better than the interior. If the group wants a counter and a cocktail, Alisios's elote old fashioned and the pineapple margarita are the pieces of the menu the bar team keeps pointing people to.
- Later. Andytown for a slow espresso on the way back to the car. Che Fico Parco Menlo if the reservation was booked in advance.
The evening only works because both calendars are finally dense enough to lean on each other. For most of the last six years, one of the two ends of that walk was missing.
What the Mírame-to-Alisios Pivot Tells You
The origin story of Alisios is worth sitting with, because it explains why this block took so long and why it is worth trusting now. The space was originally leased to Mírame, and the deal was terminated. Roughly five months later, Presidio Bay went back to the Burma Food Group and asked whether the team behind a Burmese restaurant portfolio would consider building a Mexican restaurant in the same footprint. Founder Desmond Tan has been candid that the group anticipated the skepticism and spent the interim studying the cuisine seriously before signing.
That is not how volume developers fill a retail block. Volume developers backfill with the fastest available tenant at the highest achievable rent. Springline's ownership chose to spend most of a year holding an empty room to get the right operator in it, and the result is that every restaurant on the block is either a first-outside-San-Francisco expansion or a bespoke concept built for the address. It is a different economic model than a suburban lifestyle center, and it explains both why the buildout took as long as it did and why the finished lineup does not feel generic.
The same logic runs through the other tenants. Robin's Menlo Park location is its first outside San Francisco and runs an omakase-only dinner with no written menu. Che Fico Parco Menlo is the Peninsula sibling of Che Fico Alimentari, not a franchise. Andytown made the trip south from the Outer Sunset. Causwells left the Marina after eleven years. This is a block filled from a shortlist, not from a broker's rolodex.
A Few Practical Notes for the Season
Some things worth knowing that aren't obvious from the marketing materials:
- Reservations at Robin are the tightest in the group. Book two to three weeks out for weekends. The room is small and the omakase format sets a hard cap on covers.
- Che Fico Parco Menlo takes reservations for the main dining room but keeps a share of the outdoor tables for walk-ins. Wednesdays after the concert are a reasonable window.
- Alisios's happy hour runs 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. That overlaps with the concert setup at Fremont Park by exactly thirty minutes, which is enough for a drink before the first set.
- Karl E. Clark Park is a different crowd than Fremont. It sits east of El Camino and reads more residential. The zydeco and blues dates land there deliberately; the concerts are quieter, the audience tends to be families from the surrounding streets, and the walk back to Springline is longer, about fifteen minutes.
- Fremont Park lawn geometry matters. The stage faces east, so the western half of the lawn gets the last of the sunset in the eyes. Setting up on the University Drive side, closer to the northeast corner, is the local move.
Why This Summer Matters More Than It Looks
Downtown Menlo Park has had good restaurants and free concerts for years. What is new is that a single evening now has enough weight on both ends of the walk to feel like a genuine downtown night rather than a choice between one destination and another. Springline was designed, in the developer's own framing, as a modern town square. It took six years and a Mírame termination to actually get there. The Wednesday concert series, running for its umpteenth summer with no fanfare and a 6 p.m. start, is what makes that framing land.
